The Northern Beaches Young Writers’ Competition is open to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, and this year we received over 550 amazing stories! Reflecting the tumultuous year that has been 2020, the stories portrayed strong themes of isolation, illness, mental health, oppression and self-preservation; which made for interesting, thought provoking and sometimes heartbreaking reads. More interpretations of the theme included adventures of the imagination, travel, war, under the sea, wild animals, pirates and weather. With such a huge amount of creative and varied entries in 2020, it was a great challenge for the shortlisting team and judges to arrive at a list of finalists. We hope you enjoy these wonderful award-winning stories as much as we did.
